Carl Davis
Carl Davis is the Director of Tennis at Match Point Tennis Academy with over 26 years of playing, coaching and training experience. Carl is a PTR Certifed Professional working with high performance athletes at the tournament, collegiate and high school level. He is currently the Men and Women’s Assistant Coach at Purdue University Northwest, Head Coach at Hobart High School for the Men and Women’s teams and President of the Brickie Youth Tennis Association. Carl also serves as the Director of Tennis for the Valparaiso and Hobart Parks Department. Carl is currently certifying in the Spanish system in player development and fitness and tennis conditioning with Pat Etcheberry.
Don Barron
Coach Don Barron has come full circle, as Match Point was his first job from 7th grade to his senior high school year (1983-87) as a ball boy and maintenance staff employee, where he fell in love with the sport. As an avid tennis player and multi sport athlete, he continued to compete throughout his post high school years and eventually obtained his USPTR certification through the Vander Meer Academy at Hilton Head Island in 1996. Don has coached varsity boys and girls tennis for 17 years while employed as a teacher at both Crown Point and Homewood Flossmoor High School, winning numerous sectional titles and state appearances. In 2006 he was named the Northern District Coach of the Year in Indiana and Coach of the Year Runner Up for Illinois in 2014. Don takes immense pride in having watched thousands of matches of all levels throughout his coaching career and imparting his knowledge, passion, constructive, and FUN approach to engaging his clients, while challenging them to play to their highest ability. In his spare time (or what he has left of it…), he enjoys performing in bands, and spending time with his wife and two daughters…
Steve Cavazos
Steve Cavazos has been teaching tennis since 2001 and has been a member of Match Point Tennis & Fitness since 1978. He has taught all levels of tennis from beginners to tournament players. He has experience teaching privates, semi-privates, groups and running USTA Tournaments. He is the Head Tennis Coach for Men and Women at Calumet College in Hammond Indiana, and is co-director of the “Red Hot Tennis” summer camp program sponsored by the Highland Parks and Recrea on Department. He is also a USTA Certified Tennis Official and an active member of both the USTA and PTR.
Ofelia Madrigal
Ofelia Madrigal has a BS in RHIT Management from Purdue University. She is currently a USTA cer ed Tennis O cial and is USPTR cer ed. In 2001 she began working with beginner junior groups and, since then, has expanded her teaching and coaching career. She has taught all levels of group and private lessons from children to adults and has experience as a Tournament Director. Her experience also includes coaching High School and College. She is also the co-founder of the “Red Hot Tennis Organiza on” as well as co-director and instructor of Highland Parks and Rec. Summer Tennis Programs.
Julian Childers
Julian is an ATP Touring Pro and graduate of the University of Illinois - Campaign. During his collegiate career, Julian was the 2016 Most Improved Player, Clinched back-to-back wins for Illinois against Indiana and Notre Dame, and played as high at the No. 1 in the singles lineup. He brings several years of competitive background to our programs at Match Point.
John Morris
John is a USPTA and USPTR certified teaching pro with over 20 years of experience. In addition, John has over 40 local titles in singles and doubles and has coached many tennis players to reach tournament championship status. In 2012, John achieved the #1 ranking in the Midwest and the #13 ranking in the Nation in the Men’s 40’s division.
Kenny Walsh
Kenny Walsh, assistant head Pro, is an Associate Pro certifying through PTR as a high performance teaching professional. He has been teaching and coaching both full and part-time primarily in Northwest Indiana for the last 5 years. He is the current Assistant Coach for the Men and Women’s tennis program at Hobart High School, and the Head Coach for the Hobart Middle School Program. Kenny brings a wealth of experience as a stand-out player and developmental coach.
